Os n\u00edveis normais s\u00e3o 126 mg\/dL ou menos para o a\u00e7\u00facar no sangue em jejum e 200 mg\/dL ou menos para o a\u00e7\u00facar no sangue sem jejum. Em caso de d\u00favida, \u00e9 realizado um teste oral de toler\u00e2ncia \u00e0 glicose. Consiste na ingest\u00e3o de glicose e, ap\u00f3s duas horas, na medi\u00e7\u00e3o da resposta do organismo (n\u00edveis de a\u00e7\u00facar no sangue). Se os n\u00edveis de a\u00e7\u00facar no sangue estiverem mais altos do que o normal ap\u00f3s duas horas, a diabetes \u00e9 diagnosticada. Se o resultado for normal, o diagn\u00f3stico de diabetes \u00e9 exclu\u00eddo. Outra an\u00e1lise de sangue que pode ser solicitada pelo m\u00e9dico \u00e9 a hemoglobina A1c glicada (Hb A1c). Este \u00e9 um marcador dos n\u00edveis de glicose a longo prazo, em que os n\u00edveis de 6,5% (48 mmol\/mol) ou superiores sugerem diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>Existem dois tipos de diabetes: o tipo 1 \u00e9 caracterizado por pouca ou nenhuma produ\u00e7\u00e3o de insulina no corpo, e manifesta-se geralmente durante a inf\u00e2ncia, ao passo que na diabetes 2, que se manifesta na idade adulta, os n\u00edveis de insulina s\u00e3o normais ou elevados e o corpo resiste aos seus efeitos.<\/p>\n<p>Nove em cada dez doentes com diabetes sofrem de diabetes tipo 2, o que encurta a vida, em m\u00e9dia, dez anos. Tamb\u00e9m reduz o n\u00famero de anos vividos com boa sa\u00fade, devido a doen\u00e7as card\u00edacas ou renais precoces. Como doen\u00e7a de estilo de vida, a diabetes tipo 2 est\u00e1 fortemente ligada \u00e0 falta de atividade f\u00edsica e \u00e0 obesidade, bem como a uma nutri\u00e7\u00e3o menos saud\u00e1vel.<\/p>\n<p>A diabetes tipo 2 pode ser prevenida atrav\u00e9s de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/physical-activity\/\">atividade f\u00edsica<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/heart-friendly-diet\/\">dieta equilibrada<\/a> e <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/keeping-a-healthy-weight\/\">peso saud\u00e1vel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Indiv\u00edduos com diabetes t\u00eam um risco duas a quatro vezes maior de desenvolverem uma <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/your-heart\/what-is-heart-disease\/\">doen\u00e7a card\u00edaca<\/a> ao longo da sua vida.
