Les valeurs de glyc\u00e9mie normales sont de 126&nbsp;mg\/dL ou moins \u00e0 jeun, sinon de 200&nbsp;mg\/dL ou moins. En cas de doute, un test de tol\u00e9rance au glucose est effectu\u00e9 par voie orale. Il s\u2019agit de boire du glucose puis de mesurer la r\u00e9action du corps (taux de sucre dans le sang) apr\u00e8s deux heures. Si pass\u00e9 ce d\u00e9lai, le taux de sucre dans le sang est sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 la normale, le diab\u00e8te est diagnostiqu\u00e9. Si le r\u00e9sultat est normal, le diab\u00e8te est exclu. Un autre test sanguin peut \u00eatre prescrit par votre m\u00e9decin. Il s\u2019agit du dosage de l\u2019h\u00e9moglobine glyqu\u00e9e A1c (HbA1c), un marqueur des taux de glucose \u00e0 long terme. Des valeurs de 6,5&nbsp;% (48 mmol\/mol) ou plus sugg\u00e8rent un diab\u00e8te.<\/p>\n<p>Il existe deux types de diab\u00e8te&nbsp;: le diab\u00e8te de type&nbsp;1 se caract\u00e9rise par une absence ou une faible quantit\u00e9 d\u2019insuline dans l\u2019organisme et se manifeste g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pendant l\u2019enfance&nbsp;; le diab\u00e8te de type&nbsp;2, quant \u00e0 lui, se caract\u00e9rise par des taux d\u2019insuline normaux ou \u00e9lev\u00e9s et une r\u00e9sistance de l\u2019organisme \u00e0 ses effets&nbsp;; il se manifeste \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge adulte.<\/p>\n<p>Neuf patients sur dix atteints de diab\u00e8te ont un diab\u00e8te de type 2, ce qui r\u00e9duit la dur\u00e9e de vie en moyenne de dix ans. Cela r\u00e9duit \u00e9galement le nombre d\u2019ann\u00e9es de vie en bonne sant\u00e9, en raison de maladies cardiaques ou r\u00e9nales pr\u00e9coces associ\u00e9es. En tant que maladie li\u00e9e au mode de vie, le diab\u00e8te de type 2 est fortement li\u00e9 \u00e0 un manque d\u2019activit\u00e9 physique et \u00e0 l\u2019ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 une alimentation moins saine.<\/p>\n<p>Le diab\u00e8te de type&nbsp;2 peut \u00eatre \u00e9vit\u00e9 en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/physical-activity\/\">\u00e9tant actif<\/a>, en mangeant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/heart-friendly-diet\/\">de fa\u00e7on \u00e9quilibr\u00e9e<\/a> et en maintenant un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/keep-your-heart-healthy\/keeping-a-healthy-weight\/\">poids de forme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Les personnes diab\u00e9tiques pr\u00e9sentent un risque deux \u00e0 quatre fois plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 de d\u00e9velopper une <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-heart.org\/your-heart\/what-is-heart-disease\/\">maladie cardiaque<\/a> au cours de leur vie.
